@japdmedia26: SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA, USA 🇺🇸 — Charles Sowell Kellam, founder and CEO of luxury brand Fruitful Rooster, says Nordstrom has banned him from all its stores nationwide following a dispute involving his German Shepherd service animal, Ruby. In a letter dated October 21, the retailer’s outside attorneys warned that Kellam was not permitted to enter any Nordstrom store or eBar and that doing so could lead to trespassing allegations and police involvement. The dispute began after a March 21 encounter at Nordstrom’s Scottsdale Fashion Square location. Kellam alleges he was racially profiled and humiliated by store management while accompanied by Ruby. Nordstrom’s attorneys present a different account. They allege Kellam repeatedly brought the dog inside without a leash, verbally mistreated employees and recorded staff without consent. Kellam disputes the company’s account and says it overlooks Ruby’s role as a trained service animal. “They blatantly and conveniently overlook the fact that Ruby is a service animal, and a leash prevents her acts of service,” Kellam wrote. The company also alleges Kellam returned to the Scottsdale location on October 17 despite being notified of the ban in September. The retailer says the latest warning applies to all its stores and eBars nationwide. Kellam has described the encounter as racial discrimination and says the experience caused emotional distress. Nordstrom’s response to the latest allegations had not been received by Atlanta Black Star at the time of its report. The dispute raises questions about racial profiling claims, store policies and the rights of people who use service animals. Neither side’s account should be treated as an independently established finding. Follow JAPD for more news updates. #CharlesKellam #Nordstrom #ScottsdaleArizona #FruitfulRooster #japd
