@the_30_rule: Nobody avoids holding people accountable because they are soft. They avoid it because last time it went badly. Ask a room of operators who struggles with this and every hand goes up. There are two reasons, and neither is the one people admit to. The first is that it is not consistent. If one restaurant manager is the only person doing it, that person becomes the bad guy. Anybody would duck that job. The second is simpler. It is hard. You are walking in already dreading it. You can feel it before you open the door. And you are dreading it because of what happened last time. It went off the rails. The person got upset. Somebody cried. So you avoid it, and the standard quietly moves. Here is what is actually missing. Clarity. Theirs and yours. They do not know exactly what was expected. You do not know what is about to happen in that room. Fix both and the dread goes away on its own. Restaurant training systems give the staff the clarity half, so nobody is surprised by what the standard was. Hospitality training should give the manager the other half by walking them through it until they know what to expect. Then emotional intelligence does the rest, because what they say back is what decides how far that conversation goes. Restaurant leadership is getting good enough at this that it stops feeling like a confrontation. Your restaurant culture changes on the day your managers stop dreading it. Retention follows, because people do not quit standards. They quit standards that only apply to them. Because accountability was never the punishment. It is just a tool. It is not a bad thing. It is not a big thing. It is a tool, and you can get good at it. #hospitalitytraining #restaurantleadership #restaurantsystems #restaurantowner
