@actiondiscoveries: In June 2015, a one-year-old elephant was seen wandering alone in Rumuruti Forest, a protected reserve in Laikipia County, Kenya. He was painfully thin, with no mother and no herd. A sp3ar had pierced his forehead deep into the bone of his skull, and a p0acher’s wire sn@re had cut his right front leg down to the bone. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust rescue team and the Kenya Wildlife Service tracked him down the next day. The sn@re was removed, a vet examined him, and he was flown to Nairobi on an IV drip with a keeper by his side. They named him Simotua, and that same evening he took his first bottle of milk. For months he bravely endured daily treatments, and the head wound closed, but the leg never fully healed. Despite tests, treatments, and diet changes, his body kept fading. Simotua p@ssed away on March 16, 2016, surrounded by the keepers who never left his side. His story is more than ten years old, but sn@res are still out there. They are cheap, silent, and indiscriminate, and each one can leave a calf orphaned and hurt. Will you help spread awareness about sn@res? #wildlife #silent #old #actiondiscoveries #elephant
