Jessy Ortiz :
I love my job, and I truly love what I do. ❤️I work in a nursing home and rehabilitation center, and every day I am reminded that I chose the right calling.
Many of these elderly residents look forward to seeing you arrive. Sometimes, your presence, a smile, a conversation, or simply a gentle touch can brighten their entire day. To many of them, we are that light they need, that little ray of kindness that reminds them they still matter.
And yes, it is heartbreaking to see how many of them never receive visits from their families. Some don’t even have simple things like lotion, deodorant, body spray, or the little personal-care items we all take for granted. Many times, we are the ones buying body wash, lotions, deodorant, body spray, pajamas, and other little things to give them that extra touch of care, so they can feel clean, fresh, comfortable, and good about themselves. Because they deserve to feel pampered and special, too.
What hurts the most is knowing that many of these residents worked hard their entire lives, made sacrifices, and gave their children an education and opportunities. Many of those children are now professionals, doctors, and financially successful individuals, yet their parents spend their days waiting for a visit, a phone call, or simply a hug.
I don’t judge anyone’s circumstances, but we should never forget that our elderly deserve more than physical care. They need love, attention, companionship, and to feel appreciated.
That is why I love what I do. To me, this is not just a job; it is a calling. It is about humanity, compassion, and love. I don’t regret for a single second the path I chose. If I can make even one of these residents smile, feel special, and know that someone genuinely cares about them, then my day has been worthwhile. ❤️
