@melrobbins: How do you know if you're with the right person? There is a deep, awful dread when the person that you're with is amazing, but there is just something that's not quite right. And what I learned the hard way is that sometimes you start picking apart somebody who's wonderful because it's easier than looking at what you need to deal with in yourself. On this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, I sat down with my daughter Sawyer Robbins to share my best advice for her - including getting candid about my previous relationships before meeting her dad. Stay tuned - this episode drops Thursday October 29th! “The Best Relationship Advice I’d Give My 27-Year-Old Daughter”
my soon to be ex husband literally said, you caused our separation because I started listening to you and realised I deserved more🤣

I have felt this recently. Always go with your gut!!! Don't get in God's way is my motto. I'm 63 and look forward to finding the right person after divorce since '99.

I have learnt something fairly recently. Saying “it’s not fair to another person” is just a way to escape the situation, same as “it’s not you, it’s me”. Don’t decide for other person what’s fair for them, they’re their own person and they should decide on their own what is or isn’t fair for them. You decide for yourself, what is fair for you! If you love them but can’t be with them because YOU don’t want to or cannot, may that be the reason. Not that the person is so good that it’s not fair to them to do XYZ. Because that is the shame in us, we don’t feel good enough so we say “it’s not fair to him/her” because we feel like we don’t offer anything. This is where the healing has to happen, within ourselves. That’s just my op ofc

one day she will realize this. I'm 27, she's 23. Met when I was 24, she was 21. Near 2 years dating. She was the love of my life but it became apparent she wasn't ready for the level of commitment I was ready for. She blind sided me, completely. A week before we were talking about our future home together, she let me feel safe, she let me trust her. I loved her so much, I forget just how young she is and how much she still has to learn about herself, and how much she's not ready to learn yet. She blamed leaving on me in the exact same way she blamed leaving her last relationship on her ex, she blamed her actions on me. At some point she will understand she has healing to do, no person is responsible for the way you choose to react. Speaking from experience, I first went to therapy at 26 years old and I became whole with myself, allowing me to forgive her at her worst moments unknowingly destroying my own boundaries. That's what my therapist said at least. Still struggling. Sometimes I wish I had just left it at the first hello so long ago.
