@themodernmidwife: When I was a doula, I think I had this idea that providers were the ones driving a lot of elective inductions, and that once I became a midwife, I’d be one of the providers who would avoid ever making a patient feel pressured to induce. It’s just been an interesting perspective shift going from being a doula, where I primarily worked with people who were already seeking a certain type of birth experience, to being a midwife caring for patients with a much wider range of preferences and priorities. I think I underestimated how much my experiences as a doula shaped my perception of what patients actually wanted. #womenshealth #midwife #laboranddelivery #obgyn

Paging Dr. Fran :
you know, i appreciate this. once you start working with all types of patients, rather than ones that very specifically sought you out, you realize how much variety there is in patient preferences, and how those can be supported by us

Had an absolute breeze of a 39 week elective induction as a first time mom. I will stand ten toes down for them.

I had an induction at 38.5 for baby #3 and it was a beautiful birth and by far the best of the three!

Also like I know you’re not attacking anyone, but do you know how badly I wanted to be the mom that loved being pregnant? That went to all 40 weeks and went natural, and like was so selfless and like so strong and felt like empowered etc. it is so hard when you just want your baby out. Like i bawled my eyes out every week when it was only 32, 33, 34 and I had so much more to go I thought. I wanted to die. I felt like I was dying. You feel like you’re weak. Like there’s something wrong with you, like you’re not built for this. I’m so thankful I had a beautiful newborn postpartum experience. Listen to your body. I really was very very sick. My blood pressure was crazy and my blood sugar on NPH would drop to the 40s. Like pregnancy trauma is so real I could actually cry just typing it.

lol I was 40 and 2 and called begging for an induction 🤣 they told they would let me know when they had something available and they called me the next day to come that night. 17 hours of very smooth labor, epidural at 7cm and 80 percent effacement. Labored the last 2 hours with epidural to get my rest and pushed baby out in 3 contractions. So happy everything worked out for me bc I was terrified of the risks

I’ve had a stillbirth and I have joint issues I’m trying to induce at 37/38 weeks for peace of mind and physical comfort. Especially not that he’s bigger and doesn’t really care to move super frequently. He apparently fine but enjoys the chaos of freaking me out

This is why I believe doulas needs to be open to working with all birth journeys. My communication style changed as I navigated with client the journeys that took many turns. I also think this is a reminder that everyone has perspective and sees things different.

I’m a labor nurse and was really pushing to be induced with my second IVF pregnancy because I had gestational HTN in my 1st pregnancy and I was starting to be symptomatic and have high pressures at home. I was dismissed and told that it “didn’t count” because those readings weren’t in office. I then eventually got induced for decreased fetal movement a couple weeks later.

I threatened my last child with a steak cutting utensil Grey’s Anatomy style at 39 weeks if she did not get out of my body. My midwife heard my desperation and let me castor Oil. She was born that day. 🙌🏻

My son measured 2 weeks bigger at every sono 😩 I said when can you get this baby out of me!? 9 lb 4 oz and almost got stuck 😑 I was glad I got induced! My first was premie and my second was chill but I hemorrhaged. That third one about wrecked me.

As someone who went 40+, 41+, 41+… I BEGGED for an induction and I was pretty darn crunchy but 3rd trimester me was like eff this. I never spontaneously went into labor even at almost 42 weeks. I do not judge the patients who want to be done at 39weeks. I get it. 🤣
