The whole point of the schemes was so Stanley could get rich quick. It's much harder to sell a normal product that already has big competitors when you're a small business so Stanley needed to find a way to make his products seem much more unique than they actually were with no money at all and no clue on how to be innovative. Don't forget that he was a high school dropout who wasn't that smart to begin with. He also couldn't have gone out to get an actual job bc he was banned from multiple states and was wanted for his crimes.

the leaking dye was supposed to be marketed as towel with instant dye "just rub it to another clothing of choosing and it would turn into another color, with this you can customize any clothing of your choosing! but wait there's more, if you put this towel put it on a washing machine with white clothes you can turn all of those into the desired color all at once saving you so much money"

He sold out because as he said "cheap dye i used" and probably sold them at a fraction to main line products, if he used normal prices and legal materials he'd likely make little profit and have nothing over normal products
