Megan had 16 bars over a 2Pac classic and made every one count 💯 Released in February 2019 as L.A. Leakers Freestyle 071, the @Power106LA session placed Megan Thee Stallion in the booth with Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk. She rapped over the instrumental from 2Pac and Snoop Dogg’s “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” The original song appeared on 2Pac’s 1996 double album, “All Eyez on Me,” and marked his first collaboration with Snoop Dogg. Produced by Daz Dillinger, it became one of the album’s most recognizable records and gave Megan a classic West Coast foundation for her freestyle. Rather than following the original performance, Megan stayed within her own style. She changed pace, stacked punchlines and maintained the same confident pocket throughout the verse. Using such a familiar instrumental also placed all the attention on her delivery and writing. At the time, Megan was still approaching her national breakthrough. She had released “Tina Snow” in 2018 and announced a deal with 300 Entertainment later that year, but “Big Ole Freak” would not give her a first Billboard Hot 100 entry until April 2019. The song eventually peaked at No. 65 in May. That same month, Megan released “Fever,” which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 with 28,000 equivalent album units. The timing makes this freestyle especially interesting because it captures her just before the chart numbers caught up with the momentum she had already built. In August 2022, Megan returned to L.A. Leakers and selected another West Coast classic, freestyling over Warren G and Nate Dogg’s “Regulate.” How do y’all rate Megan’s 2019 L.A. Leakers freestyle from 1 to 10? 🤔⁉️ #rap #hiphop #rapmusic #hiphopmusic
