Joseph Hedley, 39, became involved in a confrontation with the cyclist before violently attacking the man at the city’s Cowgate on 20 September 2024. The victim, 34, smashed his head on the road and was left unconscious as Hedley got back into his vehicle and drove off. After footage of the attack was shared on social media in an appeal for information, Hedley turned himself into police. Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard that Brown lost consciousness following the attack, and suffered injuries including a fractured skull, traumatic brain injury, and a bleed on his brain.
