September 10, 2026 — DAY 3 OF LIFE Mama was still staying at the hospital that day. When Mama and Papa came to visit you in the NICU, a nurse stopped us and told us that the doctors were performing a procedure on you. Mama’s heart immediately started racing. Deep down, Mama knew something had happened to you. An overwhelming feeling of fear suddenly took over, and Mama couldn’t find peace. After some time, the nurse called us in to see you. We immediately asked what had happened. The nurse told us that you had just experienced an episode of apnea, meaning you had stopped breathing for 20 minutes. Thankfully, the doctor was already in the NICU, so you received immediate medical attention and were successfully resuscitated. The doctor told us that they hoped you wouldn’t experience another episode of apnea. They were still trying to find out what had caused it, and a heart X-ray was scheduled for that very same day. Hearing all of this made Mama feel as though her own heart had stopped beating. Mama couldn’t bear to see you so restless and uncomfortable. You kept moving your tiny hands, as if you were trying to free them, almost as though you were trying to tell Mama that you were in pain. Mama wanted so badly to pick you up, hold you close, and comfort you until you felt better. But Mama couldn’t do any of those things. Mama felt so helpless, as though she was useless to you. All Mama wanted was to take away your pain, but she couldn’t. Every single day, Mama cried. Mama was afraid to face each new day because it seemed that every day brought another piece of heartbreaking news from the doctors. Sometimes, Mama felt like she couldn’t bear it anymore. It was so painful to watch you suffer and feel so helpless, never knowing what the next day would bring. But Papa was always there to encourage Mama and give her strength. He reminded Mama that she had to stay strong for you, Archie, because you needed your Mama. Keep fighting, our little boy.
