As a professional makeup artist, I actually think we put WAY too much emphasis on complicated eyeshadow looks. Social media has trained us to think “good eye makeup” means tons of colors, intricate techniques, and a huge amount of visible eyelid space between the lashes and brows. But that’s not really necessary for the average person. If you have hooded eyes, you don’t need to fight your natural eye shape or try to create an entirely different one. Tightlining, smoking out the lash line, and adding lashes can define the eyes beautifully without covering them in five different eyeshadows. And honestly, APPRECIATE THOSE FULL EYELIDS. 👀 Blepharoplasty can be an effective procedure for the right person, but removing too much upper-eyelid tissue can potentially leave the eyes looking more hollow or skeletal. One of the things we naturally see with aging is loss of soft tissue and volume around the eyes, which can make the orbital structure more visible. So why are we so obsessed with trying to eliminate every bit of eyelid fullness? THE GOAL ISN’T TO CHANGE YOUR EYE SHAPE. IT’S TO DEFINE IT. Brows and complexion are often WAY more important to the overall makeup look than an overly complicated eyeshadow situation. Your eyes don’t need to be the most elaborate part of your face to look beautiful. Appreciate your hooded eyes. Appreciate your full eyelids.
