@nourishingapothecary: Replying to @Annie-May B Six months of taking iron and your ferritin has only gone from 10 to 16? That deserves a closer look. The question I want to ask is: why was your iron low in the first place, and what’s stopping it from improving? Heavy periods are a big one. If you’re losing a lot of blood every month, it can be difficult to rebuild your iron stores. We need to investigate that bleeding and address the cause alongside replacing your iron. Then there’s absorption. Conditions such as coeliac disease can affect how much iron you absorb. Persistent digestive symptoms belong in this conversation too, although bloating or constipation alone doesn’t tell us you’re malabsorbing iron. I also want to know exactly what you’re taking. The form matters, but so does the amount of elemental iron, how consistently you take it and whether side effects are making it difficult. And timing counts. Taking your iron with coffee, tea or calcium can reduce absorption. Your other supplements and medications need a look too. This is why I ask about your periods, digestion, food, supplement routine and blood results together. Each piece helps us understand what’s happening. If your levels are barely shifting after months, book a review with your GP. You may need further investigations or a different treatment approach. At Nourishing Apothecary, we can help review your nutrition and supplement routine alongside your medical care, with follow-up blood tests to track your progress. The mindfully anxious woman :
Mine is consistently around 14-17 although it went up even after a 24day period. July - 14, September - 17 and just went up last week to 22 (after 24 day period). Still low I know and hoping to get up to 80.

I wish my naturopath would dive deeper, I’ve been taking iron for 6 months, and we aren’t checking my ferratin until January it started at 15. I know the oral pills aren’t gonna work quick but why are we not looking into other reasons. I do and have just been diagnosed with adenomyosis and very heavy periods and my gyno has mentioned hysterectomy so wondering if I do that if it would help with the ferratin and iron levels. I am struggling so bad right now
