There was a older male patient who was really mean and rude to everyone who even entered into his room, family and doctors included. He was put on hospice and all of a sudden he changed. He never wanted to be alone, he went from loud and brash to quiet and always seeming scared. The closer he got to the end the more scared he got. I had him the day before he died. He begged me to stay in the room as long as I could (which I couldn’t because I had 4 other patients). I finally asked him what is he afraid of. He said “she’s finally going to get me…. I’m so scared of how she’s finally going to do it.” I asked him who….. turns out he brutally S’Ad a woman when he was in college and she unalived herself after sending him a letter saying “he will pay for taking her innocence.” He passed the next day, no family by his side, just the charge nurse and his nurse for that day and she said he said “I’m sorry, please forgive me” hundreds of times. When he took his last breath she said he looked terrified. Good.

Not a ghost story but we used to have a resident who was a double amputee. Middle of this night this woman decided to start army crawling down the hallway dead silent. Needless to say she got kicked.

In the ER on night shift, I was coming out of a trauma room looked down the hall towards the staff restroom, and saw a black clocked figure running out of the restroom and the door slamming loudly. I ran towards the figure and ended up back at the nurses' station. I asked everyone if they saw someone come this way, they said no and thought the door slamming was me. 5 minutes later Code Blue was paged. We had 3 different code Blues that night. I still believe the Grim Reaper had to take a potty break before making rounds 🙃

Not a nurse yet, but went to take a patient up to med-surg and he goes “who’s that little boy at the end of the bed playing with the toy truck, I replied “pardon”. Then I took him in the elevator and he goes “guess he’s gonna come upstairs with us”

Worked in the psych hold unit with 1 RN as a CNA. 8 psych pts. The RN left me alone with them for a few minutes and the one asleep the whole time goes from supine to sitting on the edge of her cot, head cocked to one side, in an eery high-pitched voice, “Have you had your baby yet, Rosemarie?” I had my daughter a few weeks before that and her middle name was Rosemarie, and never mentioned having kids. 😳😱

Working overnight on a behavioral unit and a patient passed away earlier that day. His room was blocked off due to needing to be repaired - with a door alarm on to ensure other patients didn’t go in.. 3am just me and the other nurse (older lady who played gospel all shift) no patients up… the door flew open ripping the door alarm off. My coworker looked at me said “gurrrrrrll go look” and turned up her music 🫠

My coworker smacked the ass end of a reefer trailer and sent his heart into hibernation. I picked him up from the accident site transported him back to the morgue stuck him in the freezer 10-20 minutes later he was banging on the door to get him out! I peed my pants and ran out of the morgue. Happy Halloween

had a patient use the call bell and said "there's little girls in here playing and im trying to sleep can you tell them to come out". nurse tells the "girls" to leave. then a few doors down end of the hall another patient calls "hey there's some girls playing in here"

I had a schizophrenic & combative patient who, while we were trying to put restraints on her, stopped her thrashing suddenly to look at me & say, “I’m a Baptist too” (I was going to a Baptist church at the time). And then another nurse said to her, “I thought you were a Jehovah’s Witness,” since she had apparently told that to another nurse, who was a Jehovah’s Witness. Neither of us had told her our denominations.

I worked in a nursing home for nuns that was a former girls school. One hallway was empty and locked but we heard footsteps up and down the hall all night. We checked the unit thoroughly and it was empty and still locked up tight. I parked myself at the cctv monitor and caught this figure running down the hall.

How about the call light going off and when we answered it weird static whispers. The room was empty, was a bad code in it a few hours earlier. Unplugged the call light from the wall. 2 hrs later the tele monitor in the room started alarming asystole. We turned the monitor off. Room still empty. Then the call light went off again… it was still unplugged from the wall. We called the chaplain to pray over the room & it never happened again.

I was sitting at the end of the hall charting at 0300 and heard a noise and walked past an empty room just to see the bed go from lying position to HOB full 90 degrees on its own!?!? And it happened TWICE

My first night shifts as a new grad I sat in the hall close to my patients ... something kept knocking above my head and I heard a whisper in my ear "Help me" all my pts were asleep and it's in the corner of the unit where I had all of the pts on my assignment (of course). after the 3rd night of this happening I went and sat my ass at the nursing station with everyone else 🤣

not a nurse but I work nights at wendys and one night j after close at midnight I watched an empty box FLYYY off the sandwich station and the management office door slammed shut hard af and half the lights shut off I was the only person in the store everyone else was outside smoking

Not a nurse yet, because I’m too poor to afford the NCLEX, lol, but currently work in an ER and used to work in a hospital that had long term care in it. One overnight I’m sitting in the lab which was located in a dark ahhh corner of the hospital…and I see this lady running with her walker, I started running after her because obviously she escaped LTC and needs to go back upstairs, I turn the corner and her head turns around not her body but just her head, she’s starts CACKLING. I started screaming. Xray comes out of their dungeon and she’s gone. Obviously hallucinating and refused to go anywhere other than the ED that night.

I work night shift and needed to go to the cafeteria so i went to use the freight elevators which I usually never use, and something pulled my ponytail hard and jerked my head back and then I heard a female whisper something in my ear but I couldn’t make it out. I was alone and this happened right after we had a young female patient pass from alcohol poisoning

Was finishing an evening med pass in long term care and the resident tilts her head up and says “now who’s that tall fella behind you, with the hat and the black coat?” There was no one there but the air went cold and I SKEDADDLED out of there. Pretty sure she passed away soon after. I got a job in the ICU after that! 😳
