@thesportsontap: Sal Frelick is playing in the World Series for the Milwaukee Brewers. Some of his best friends are people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and he has been showing up for them since high school. “I really do think they’re angels.” He grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, and joined Best Buddies in high school after already being friends with those students in the hallway. “I had just been friends with these kids in the hallways, so I was like, ‘Sounds fun.’” He went to their events. He went to their prom. One of those friends is still one of his best friends, and they get dinner every offseason. When he got to Milwaukee, something felt missing. So he sent the local Best Buddies chapter a message on Instagram and asked how he could help. Then he spent a Saturday morning before a game at Inclusion Coffee Company in Hartland, Wisconsin, where most of the staff are people with disabilities. Coffee and photos with fans, money to Best Buddies and the staff. The owner asked for one thing: no autographs. Here is the honest part. It was not a huge foundation or a giant check. It was an hour on a Saturday, a lot of dinners and a lot of showing up. That is exactly the point. “If you’re around people with special needs or they’re in the same environment as you, go up and talk to them.” Win or lose this World Series, he has already been showing up where it counts. #MLB #brewers #WorldSeries #milwaukeebrewers #samfrelick
