I was told I cannot celebrate Dia De Los Muertos because I am white. My husband is Mexican and my children are half. I try to do all that i can to honor his heritage. Then i was told (not by him) that i can't celebrate and cannot add my grandparents to the ofrenda.

I am not a member of the Indigenous People's but I wanted to honor those who have been taken suddenly and tragically. I wrote out all the names I could find of those who lost their lives in detention centers and placed them on a table with candles, food, drinks, flowers, salt, blankets, and said a prayer for their safe journey. Some of their families may not know they have passed and I wanted to honor their lives and let them know they are loved and not forgotten. May their journeys to their loved ones be peaceful, safe, and filled with love.

I know many people argue about this but thank you for welcoming people to the practice. Both of my birth parents are white,but as long as I can remember I was raised with a big Mexican family that my mom married into that taught me many beautiful traditions. Since I’ve grown, I get a lot of dislike for my ofrenda because I’m white but it just wouldn’t be right not to celebrate my ancestors.
