@tinmanloveshorror: Tape #028 is taking us back to the mall, where the doors are locked, the security robots are armed, and customer service has officially gone to hell. Directed by Jim Wynorski, Chopping Mall traps a group of young employees inside a shopping center after an electrical storm sends its new robotic security force into kill mode. It’s fast, funny, ridiculous, and loaded with everything you could want from an ’80s sci-fi horror movie. My copy is the Lightning Video VHS, featuring one of the most recognizable covers of the era. The mechanical hand gripping a bag full of severed body parts has almost nothing to do with what happens in the movie, but it absolutely did its job on the video-store shelf. A little edge wear only makes it look more at home there. And that tagline: “WHERE SHOPPING CAN COST YOU AN ARM AND A LEG.” Cheap, gruesome, and impossible to resist. That’s how you sell a killer-robot movie. TINMAN TAPE RATING Movie: 8/10 Cover Art: 10/10 VHS Cool Factor: 10/10 Collection Essential: 9/10 Would this cover have convinced you to rent Chopping Mall without knowing anything about it? #ChoppingMall #LightningVideo #HorrorVHS #TinmanLovesHorror
