I also believe that a profound student or teacher of mysticism should not be overly concerned with winning debates or proving themselves superior to others. From my understanding of the mystical path, the purpose of spiritual study is not to defeat another person’s argument, but to deepen one’s understanding of existence, consciousness, and the hidden dimensions of life.Mystics seek to look beyond the limitations of ordinary perception and the five physical senses. They seek to cultivate inner awareness, discernment, and a deeper understanding of the realities that may not be immediately apparent to the ordinary mind.Therefore, when someone challenges a person who claims to be a mystical teacher to engage in a debate, I believe the teacher should first reflect on the purpose of that invitation. Is it a sincere search for knowledge, or merely an attempt to win an argument and establish intellectual superiority?Not every challenge deserves a response, and not every disagreement requires a debate.However, I would not say that every dialogue or debate is necessarily contrary to mysticism. A sincere exchange of ideas can sometimes illuminate truths, correct misunderstandings, and help people learn from one another. The important question is whether the exchange is motivated by a genuine search for understanding or by the desire to defeat, humiliate, or dominate another person.True wisdom does not need to turn every disagreement into a battlefield.
