Fear continues to grow among Stockton residents following reports that masked individuals believed to be federal immigration agents took a man selling cempasúchil flowers, traditionally used during Día de los Muertos celebrations. The reported incident occurred Sunday, November 1, at the ARCO gas station near the intersection of Alpine Avenue and California Street at around 9:20am According to information shared with The Stockton Chronicle, at least one man selling the traditional orange marigold flowers was reportedly taken into custody by masked individuals believed to be ICE agents. Cempasúchil flowers hold deep cultural significance during Día de los Muertos, a tradition honoring deceased loved ones. The reported detention comes as families throughout Stockton observe the holiday. The incident follows several reports of suspected immigration enforcement activity across Stockton over the Halloween weekend, including encounters near Jefferson Street and California Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Washington Street. Residents have expressed growing fear and uncertainty as reports of masked immigration agents continue to emerge from neighborhoods throughout the city.
