@trend_log: we work the same shift at the restaurant and he's been with his girlfriend since high school. i knew that the very first day. he talks about her all the time, shows me pictures of their dog, asks me what to get her for her birthday. and i still fell for him. the way he hums in the kitchen during the dinner rush, the way he always saves me the last breadstick. my coworker smokes on every break and one night she was laughing at me for being hopeless, and i said, you know those things are killing you and you still do it, so why can't i just like him and let it be? she didn't have an answer. i don't think there is one. some feelings don't ask permission. i'm not going to do anything about it, and i'd never get between them. but i'm also not going to hate myself for feeling it. i'm letting it pass through me at its own speed, and in the meantime i'm pouring the rest of that heart into myself, where it's actually safe.
