I got two tortie sisters, one 🩶 I pulled in from my front sidewalk because I thought something was wrong with her. Come to find out she's deaf. The other 🖤 came in a few months later right as the first cold snap of the year was blowing in. Both recognized each other immediately. This one of their many pictures together.

Family mattering is almost quintessential for being a mammal. It’s not true for every species but obviously mammals have to take care of their young for a certain period of time meaning that many many many species of mammals evolved to take those familial bonds past just the feeding stage.

even the hamsters they probably had as kids obviously know their own family (in the case of hamsters family is the only excuse outside mating to not be murdered on sight.. at least up to a certain age

As someone that keeps sheep, pigs, and birds, it is wildly ignorant to think animals don’t understand their own social structures.

yes but dont forget that this does not stop mating! most animals know "family" this means nothing to them in mating because they have no concept of inbreeding, generally. Theres always exceptions but on the majority.

Yeah but animals don't pay bills nor they wake up at 6 to clock in so they are essentially moving furniture under the eyes of society
