Prince William is used to being recognized wherever he goes, but during a recent royal outing, one man had a completely different celebrity in mind. During an October 6 visit to Sweet Surprise café in Ilminster, Somerset, the Prince of Wales encountered a man who reportedly thought he was the legendary singer Prince. William later shared the hilarious mix-up during an October 23 appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “One lovely gentleman looked up at me from his seat and said, ‘When are you going to sing?’” William recalled. At first, the future king didn't understand what the man meant. But the mystery was quickly solved when the man made it clear he wanted to hear “Purple Rain,” Prince’s iconic hit. William admitted he didn't know the lyrics. A woman sitting nearby then stepped in to explain that he wasn't the singer the man had in mind. The story became even sweeter when the man's mother spoke to The Sun. She explained that her son, Sebastian, was a huge fan of the musician and knew his songs and lyrics by heart. She also shared that Sebastian had written William an apology letter, thanking him for the visit. Rather than treating the mix-up as an awkward moment, William turned it into a funny story to share with the public. And there was another musical revelation during the same interview: William admitted he once dreamed of becoming a DJ and even came up with the stage name “DJ Xara.” Sometimes, even a future king can be mistaken for a pop legend—and leave with a story worth remembering.
