My take on SPAIN TRAIN CRASH. „RAILWAY SAFETY SYSTEMS MUST NEVER BE TREATED AS OPTIONAL“ As a railway professional, I am deeply saddened by the tragic train collision in Spain. My heartfelt condolences go to the victims, their families, the injured and everyone affected by this devastating incident.💐💙 What makes this tragedy particularly painful is that railway safety systems are specifically designed to prevent conflicting train movements and protect human lives. According to preliminary reports, the failure of the LZB train protection system brought several trains to a halt. Serious questions have now emerged about the subsequent decision to authorise a train to resume normal running while another train remained stationary ahead. When a safety system fails, operational discipline must become even more important never less. In railway operations, a technical failure must trigger established degraded mode procedures, clear communication between the control centre and train drivers, proper verification of the line’s status and strict adherence to the applicable speed restrictions and movement authorities. A safety system failure should never become a reason to compromise safety. It should be a signal to strengthen every available layer of protection. We must allow the independent investigation to establish exactly what happened and where the failures occurred. But one principle remains unquestionable… safety must always take precedence over punctuality, operational pressure and the desire to restore normal service. Every signal has a purpose. Every procedure exists for a reason. Every decision can have consequences. „No timetable is worth a human life“.
