A Fresno ag lender was just indicted on federal charges in an alleged $65 million fraud scheme, and prosecutors say some of the victims were his own farm customers. 🌾 Here’s what the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California says happened: 👉 Ron Cook, 58, owns Corporate America Lending (CAL), a Fresno company that writes loans for farmers, ranchers and others in agriculture. 👉 CAL sells interests in those loans to investors, financial companies and Farmer Mac, the federally backed secondary market for farm loans. 👉 Prosecutors say Cook diverted $58 million from a loan refinance without the original loan holder knowing, then moved the money to friends and associates to hide it. 👉 They also allege he used customers’ identities to take out Farmer Mac loans in their names without their knowledge. 👉 And they say he sold investors shares of loans that never existed. In total, prosecutors say he obtained at least $64 million and spent it on his lifestyle, political donations, and paying off people who had caught on. He was arrested Nov. 2 and faces charges of wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, money laundering and making false statements to the federal government. The false-statements charge alone carries up to 30 years in prison. If you’ve ever borrowed through or invested with Corporate America Lending: ✅ Confirm with your servicer who holds your loan ✅ Pull your credit report and look for loans you don’t recognize ✅ Keep all your loan paperwork ✅ Talk to your lender and an attorney if something looks off Our full article has the details and links to every official source. Link in bio. 📖 ⚖️ These charges are allegations only. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
