Want to refinish furniture? I can help! I’ve been refinishing furniture full time for 4 years now, and I love helping others learn how to do this too! Any questions? Just ask! Here are the steps: ➡️ Clean inside and out with a degreasing cleaner. I used @OdoBan here because it was smelly and then followed up with @Simple Green (my favorite degreaser) ➡️ Fill any damage with Mohawk epoxy putty ➡️ Sand to bare wood with 120 grit ➡️ Use @Klean Strip acetone to remove the finish in tough to reach spots (TOTALLY OPTIONAL) ➡️ To add new veneer, scuff sand with 120 grit and then clean and remove dust with denatured alcohol or acetone. ➡️ Cut to size leaving at least 1” of overhang ➡️ Clamp down your veneer ➡️ Peel the backing back a few inches and fold ➡️ Stick it down firmly and use a piece of scrap wood with a rounded edge to smooth it out and adhere it to the surface as you pull out the paper backing ➡️ Trim the edges with an xacto knife and sand with 120 grit until smooth ➡️ Then hand sand with 220 grit with the grain and remove all dust before staining ➡️ Apply gel stain liberally and wipe back completely in the direction of the grain. I used @GeneralFinishes Candlelite ➡️ Once that’s dry (I give it 24 hours), then apply a coat of dewaxed shellac ➡️ Blend in your repairs with Mohawk Blendal sticks sealing with lacquer between layers. Then add a tiny touch of Mohawk toner. Once dry seal with Mohawk pre-cat lacquer (OPTIONAL) ➡️ I mix equal parts dewaxed shellac, denatured alcohol, and transtint dyes to make a homemade toner and spray 1-4 coats (I only used 2 here) to achieve the color you’re looking for. ➡️ Once that’s dry, apply your top coat. I used General Finishes enduro poly ➡️ Hand sand lightly with 320 or higher to knock down any texture ➡️ Apply final layer of top coat ➡️ For the finishing touches, apply furniture balm to the drawers and drawer slides
