With all the technology we have today, how can a train still crash into another train? Couldn’t drivers have a live GPS map showing where other trains are, with automatic warnings and braking when there’s a collision risk? If another train is stopped ahead or coming towards them on the same track, the system should detect it far enough away to slow down safely, allowing for speed and stopping distance—not wait until a last-second emergency stop. How can one human mistake still lead to so many lives being lost?

:There was an error on the security system of the railroad that caused the stop of 8 trains. Since the system was down the central took control manually and gave instructions to the trains to start again, but the Iryio train didn't start (unknown reasons for now). There was a red light but a person from the central stated to the AVE train to go on, and then was the crash. The AVE collided with the Iryo from behind, they were on the same rail. That's all we know for now in Spain.

there should be back up safety programs that automatically kick in when the main program fails.. switching to manual is absurd with complicated railway networks and train achedules.. and wtf, unlimited speed? almost sounds like malicious intent 😳

the state company that runs the rail logistics and controls the tracks should be able to take over even private companies in these situations the same way a central bank can take control of any commercial bank
