@wbztv: A heartbroken dog owner in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, says her dog Ajax was hit and killed by a truck right in front of her and then the driver took off. Police hope surveillance video will help lead them to the driver. Carley Cook tells WBZ’s Brandon Truitt her family is heartbroken, and they're hoping anyone with doorbell video will come forward. #massachusetts #dog #pet #truck #police

What kind of closure are they looking for? The dog owner would be financially responsible for any damage to the vehicle. This is a hard lesson for the owner, poor pup.

So common sense is lacking in these comments. Yes dog should be on a leash. Does not negate the fact the driver broke the law by not stopping. 👍

Double the Garlic ✡️ :

So many of the commenters here are not familiar with Manchester by the Sea. These roads have VERY slow speed limits. Like 10 mph. Yes, dogs should be leashed, but anyone going the speed they ought to would have no problem seeing and stopping in time. This guy was speeding.

Bensonthebulldog :

That happened in North Andover last year. Off 114 a woman flagged my car down and said “I just hit a dog” and then drove off. The poor family was not only devastated the speed at which she had to have hit the dog was insane- such a gruesome hit. I think about her all the time and the fact that she didn’t turn around and come back- I hope it haunts her every day.

She had it off leash?

vehicles don't just come out of no where...

Betty Schnauzer :

This is so upsetting. Of course that driver sucks for driving off. But she failed her dog so badly. He should’ve been on a leash. You never know what’s going to happen. You can’t be near a street and have an off leash dog. This is so upsetting. A dog should still be alive. Please leash your dogs. They’re too precious.

Lisa Crocketts :

And the fact that he got off and checked, and he seen it was a dog so he got back in his car and drove away. He was probably going to work or whatever the dog should not be in the middle of the road should be on the sidewalk with a leash on it. It’s the dog owner’s fault. What did she want him to do stop make a funeral. Say a few words like what was she expecting?

AG :

This is so devastating

tocker125 :

Truck didn’t stop but the driver got out and saw he struck the dog? That doesn’t make sense

MIFWIC950 :

I love animals but that is 100% on the owner.

Sad. But preventable.

Oh Dear! :
