Kigali can pour all the asphalt it wants into the hills of Bugesera, but a race track does not wash blood off anybody's hands. Rwanda has signed a 10-year deal to host Formula One at a purpose-built circuit outside Kigali, with the first race expected in the early 2030s, and we are supposed to clap. We are not clapping. We don't care about this Grand Prix. We reject it, we boycott it, and we are saying loudly that Formula One has shown the whole world it has no moral compass. This is not a rumour or a feeling. In February 2025 the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously for Resolution 2773, which called on the Rwanda Defence Force to stop supporting M23 and pull out of Congolese territory immediately and without preconditions. That same resolution condemned the M23 offensive in North and South Kivu carried out with the support of Rwandan forces, including the capture of Goma in January and Bukavu in February 2025. Every single member of the Council voted for it. Not one country stood up to defend Kigali. And the UN's own investigators went further. Their experts found that Rwanda exercised command and control over M23 during the advance, gaining political influence and access to mineral-rich land. They gave a conservative estimate of 6,000 Rwandan troops active in North and South Kivu. They even found that when M23 pulled out of Walikale, that move followed a direct instruction from the Government of Rwanda, which the experts said once again confirmed Rwanda's command and control. A year earlier, another UN expert report said Rwanda's de facto control and direction over M23 operations makes Rwanda liable for what M23 does. Those are not my words. That is the United Nations. Now they want to change the name and hope we forget. Just days ago the AFC and M23 alliance announced it would now be called the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation, the FRN, with Joseph Kabila as its face. But look closely. M23 leaders Corneille Nangaa and Bertrand Bisimwa became vice-presidents and Sultani Makenga became Chief of General Staff. Same commanders, same guns, new sticker. A new name does not bring back the people who were killed, raped and chased from their homes in the Kivus. So when Kagame stands on a stage with the F1 bosses and calls this a milestone for Africa, understand what is really happening. This is sportswashing, plain and simple. You use shiny global events to polish your image while your army's fingerprints are all over a war next door. And Formula One knew all of this. The UN resolution is public.
