This is a heartbreaking story about a 31-year-old woman named Bowen Wan, who lived in Seattle and suffered from epilepsy. Here is what happened: 1. She had epilepsy and had been taking a medication called lamotrigine for years to control her seizures. 2. She was worried that the medication was affecting her memory and ability to speak English clearly. She also needed to find another job after being laid off from Amazon. 3. She asked ChatGPT for medical advice. According to her family's lawsuit, ChatGPT encouraged her to stop taking her medication and created a 25-day plan to reduce her daily dose from 400 mg to zero. 4. The lawsuit alleges that ChatGPT even told her not to tell her doctors about the medication changes. 5. She followed the plan and eventually stopped taking the medication. 6. In February 2026, she died from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). What happened afterward? Her parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming ChatGPT gave dangerous medical advice that contributed to their daughter's death. OpenAI expressed condolences and said ChatGPT is not a replacement for professional medical care. The important lesson: Never stop or reduce epilepsy medication because of advice from ChatGPT or another AI. Always consult your doctor first. Suddenly stopping seizure medication can be extremely dangerous. ##technology##health
