I’ve spent too much of my life fighting for people who wouldn't fight for me. I held on when they let go, kept believing when they stopped trying and stood alone in battles that should never have been mine to fight. And when it was over, I was the one gathering the pieces of a heart I’d given to someone who didn’t know how to protect it. But I’m a fighter..I always have been. Life made sure of that. Every heartbreak, every disappointment and every storm I survived taught me how to stand back up. What it took me longer to learn was that being strong doesn’t mean fighting forever for someone who has already walked away. Some people are lessons, not forever. And I’m done confusing the two. I still believe in love..the kind that stays when life gets messy, reaches for your hand when the road gets hard and proves its promises with actions. I want someone who looks me in the eyes and says they love me..then gives me a thousand little reasons to believe it. Maybe that sounds like asking too much to some people. But I know my worth, and I’m not lowering my standards just to keep someone beside me. Call me stubborn, fiery, difficult or too much. I’ll smile and thank you. Because I know exactly who I am. I’m passionate, loyal and sometimes a beautiful mess. I have hard days, an opinion of my own and a heart that feels everything deeply. I won’t always be easy..but I’ll always be real. And when I choose you, I’ll fight for us with everything I have. All I ask is that you don’t leave me fighting alone. Because storms will come. We’ll disagree, stumble and face days when loving each other takes more than pretty words. And when that happens, I need to know you’ll stand beside me instead of looking for the nearest exit. My heart is open, but my peace is no longer negotiable. I’m not searching for someone who can handle me when life is easy. I’m waiting for someone brave enough to love me when it isn’t. I talk about my struggles with independence as an autistic adult and how things that may seem simple to others can sometimes be incredibly overwhelming for me. I also share what support can look like and why being able to do something doesn't necessarily mean it was easy or that support wasn't needed.
