Imagine standing side of stage thinking, “I have to follow Howie Mandel.” Yeah, this is my life. On the 31st of August 2018, a girl from Dublin sold everything she owned, packed her life into six suitcases and moved to Los Angeles to follow a dream. Eight years later, here we are. And yes, that’s me in the green room with Dave Chappelle, Craig Robinson and Leslie Jones — just a few of the people I get to hang out with in the green rooms of the greatest comedy ecosystem that is Los Angeles. A year and a half after arriving, I found my biological father — and he was American. What followed was a long process of navigating a new identity and remedying my birth identity. On January 8th, 2026, I finally remedied everything and was officially reverted back to my birth name: Danielle Collins. And yeah, I am the great-grandniece of Michael Collins. I always knew that — that part was no surprise. I’m still trying to talk a bit about everything else on stage, but somehow it’s still too painful. Somewhere in between, there was a pandemic that I spent largely on my own. Then there were the wildfires. My entire skincare range burned to the ground. It wasn’t covered by insurance because nothing was. But some people lost their homes. You put things in perspective and you keep going. Last year, I had a catastrophic fall, spent a lot of time in hospital and had to learn to walk again. And yeah, I had to navigate most of that on my own too. People tell me, “You’re so independent.” We all know independence is a trauma response. As Elton John would say, I’m still standing. And somehow, through all of it, there was comedy. I spend a lot of time working on the East Coast too, but these are LA stages only, because this weekend belongs to Los Angeles. I love my American friends. I love and miss my Irish friends. And I absolutely love the comedy ecosystem I’ve found in America. Eight years. Six suitcases. A new identity. A pandemic. Wildfires. A catastrophic fall. A lot of stages. And a lot of stories. My official eight-year LA birthday is August 31st. I love America. 🇺🇸 May God bless America. #standupclips #standupcomedy #standupcomedian #dublintiktok #irishtiktok
