Garland is finally getting its first H-E-B, and we now have a much better idea of when construction could begin. New state filings reveal plans for a massive 129,000-square-foot H-E-B near President George Bush Turnpike and Firewheel Parkway, right by Firewheel Town Center. And this is a pretty significant investment. The grocery store alone is expected to cost approximately $23 MILLION to construct. Plans also include a fuel station and car wash, bringing the combined estimated construction budget to approximately $24.3 million. According to the filings, construction could begin in April 2027, with the main grocery store targeting completion in March 2028. But here’s what makes this announcement even more interesting. Garland isn’t just getting one H-E-B-related grocery store. The company is also planning a Joe V’s Smart Shop in South Garland, near Centerville Road and LBJ Freeway. If you’re not familiar with Joe V’s, it’s H-E-B’s lower-price grocery concept, focused on offering everyday essentials and groceries at competitive prices. So H-E-B is essentially entering Garland with two different grocery formats serving different parts of the city. The traditional H-E-B near Firewheel would serve the northern portion of Garland, while Joe V’s would expand the company’s presence into South Garland. And this is part of a much larger trend we’re seeing across North Texas. H-E-B continues expanding throughout DFW, bringing new grocery options and major commercial investments to communities that have been waiting years for a location. One important distinction: H-E-B has not announced an official opening date for the Firewheel store. The dates listed in state filings are preliminary construction estimates. But for Garland residents who have been asking for an H-E-B, this is another major step forward. So here’s my question for Garland residents. Are you more excited about the new H-E-B near Firewheel, or the Joe V’s Smart Shop coming to South Garland? #GarlandTX #HEB #Firewheel #DFWDevelopment #DevelopingDFW
