@earthsignalofficial: October 29, 2026 | California Coast Record-breaking tides have been flooding the California coast all week. The Los Angeles tide gauge at San Pedro reached about 8.2 feet on Tuesday, the highest level since records began there in 1923. Newport Beach saw its highest tide ever, 8.4 feet, two days in a row. Seawater pushed into homes and garages in Sunset Beach and Newport Beach, and Pacific Coast Highway was closed in Huntington Beach. In San Francisco, water covered the waterfront near the Ferry Building, setting an October record. These are king tides, the highest tides of the year, which come when the Moon and Sun line up and the Moon swings close to Earth. This week, powerful surf arrived at the same time and pushed the water even higher. Peak flooding is expected through today, with coastal flood alerts from San Francisco to San Diego through Friday.
