It’s not about being able to sew it with the machine hand sewing with the specific stich technique of not using the eye and making a thread loop is just better, all the haute couture houses do it

If you want to put them on like this, you can treat it like a button. If your machine has a zigzag stitch: measure the distance between the holes, drop the feed dogs, do a test stitch to make sure it’s clearing the metal, and you should be just fine! I like to use a plastic foot so I can see the placement really well but many machines have button foots available to hold your hardware in the correct position.

if you work out how wide the such needs to be, I'd turn it sideways, zigzag stitch at whatever width needed, 0 stitch length so it just goes side to side in one spot.

How do you get the stitches to stay in without the foot I find I have to hold the fabric down so close to the needle - last time I did this I went through my finger 😭
