That's not true. British Gas actually reduced my household tariff when i went in their EV rate. And then when i moved to Octopus I got an even cheaper household and off peak tariff.

Traded in the old car for new EV… got 10k off for buying EV. Put 10k into solar and batteries. Haven’t paid for grid power since March. Winter setup to charge car and batteries on EV rate.

if i plug my car on and the energy company starts the charge (smart charging) that is billed at cheap rate and at that same time whilst car is charging the house gets billed at cheap rate and at the same time I get cheap rate between 11pm and 6am with my previous provider i was paying between 350 and 450 per month now for the last 2 years I haven't paid anymore than 250

I am an EV driver, I didn’t go to EV for the planet or all that green agenda crap, I simply liked the vehicle but it didn’t come in a combustion version. I kept my current tariff at home as the cheap rate screws you up for the daytime so Instead of £3 to fully charge on the “night time rate” I now pay about £12 for the full 300miles, it’s still much cheaper to run than a my diesel vehicle and nice to drive too. 😊

Yep but that’s why I have batteries for the house and have load shifted 99% of my usage to off peak or solar. So 3.99p per kWh for the majority of our use.

That's why you should get battery backup and solar.

Hummm, I agree, but as you say, a few variables here. Octopus have given me a rebate on my standing charge for 6months as a credit. Also have £400 credit home charge, in addition to a £100 credit for public charging, with them for having my EV. Plus, if you have a saving sessions of roughly 2 per week of reduced energy each time, I have an hour free electric.

Yeah, but 73 kWh is only 293 miles per month, most people do a fair bit more than this. In Northern Ireland I need to use about 25% of my electricity kWh at night rate to be cheaper. I’m easily over 40% so it’s clear cut for me.

I get cheap electricity between 11pm-6am. I don't go to bed early. so only every put th washing machine/dishwasher etc on after 11. I've actually saved money on my daily electricity consumption

Get a battery and you never pay any day rate price. Just charge it up at night at the cheap rate
