@htowndailynews: Early Thursday morning, a resident shot an intruder who attempted to break into a Houston apartment, leaving the man in critical condition. Houston Police Department Lt. Wilkens reported that the incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. along the 2300 block of Bering Drive. Authorities believe the wounded man, who resides in the same complex, may have confused the unit with his own home. According to police, the resident was sleeping on his couch when noise at the door woke him. Sensing a potential break-in after hearing the handle rattle and what sounded like a kick, he grabbed an AR-15 rifle. Spotting an unfamiliar, unarmed man through the door, the resident opened it to investigate, accompanied by his girlfriend.
