@renees.next.adventure: 🍂 FALL PEAK COLORS IN ILLINOIS 🍁 @Enjoy Illinois @HeritageCorridorDestinations When the @Starved Rock Hikers fall colors tracker hit “PEAK” on 10/28/26, I knew it was time to hit the road! 🚗 Just 90 minutes south of Chicago, I found the most spectacular fall show — golden leaves, fiery orange trees, dramatic canyons, waterfalls, and breathtaking Illinois River views. 📍 STARVED ROCK STATE PARK One of Illinois’ most beautiful outdoor destinations, Starved Rock is known for its sandstone canyons, forested trails, seasonal waterfalls, and scenic overlooks along the Illinois River. Here are the FOUR stops featured in my reel: 🥾 1. Illinois Canyon — A peaceful 1-mile out-and-back hike from the parking area on Highway 71, surrounded by towering canyon walls and gorgeous fall foliage. 🍁 2. Starved Rock — Less than a mile from the Visitor Center, this iconic sandstone bluff offers a beautiful and easy hike and a chance to take in the park’s unique landscape. 🌿 3. French Canyon — Less than a mile from the Visitor Center and Starved Rock, this stunning canyon is a must-see for its dramatic rock formations and woodland scenery. 🌊 4. Eagle Cliff Overlook — About a mile from the Visitor Center, this spot rewards you with some of the best panoramic views of the Illinois River. ✨ BONUS STOP: MATTHIESSEN STATE PARK Just a short drive away, Matthiessen is another fall gem featuring rugged canyons, rock formations, forest trails, and two beautiful waterfalls — the Upper and Lower Falls. 🥾 Don’t miss the Lower Dells! This area is especially worth exploring for its winding canyon paths, stone stairways, creek crossings, and incredible natural scenery.
