@nicole_nathern_hedrick: The reality of "free" basic needs isn't what people think. 🥪 Many believe democratic socialism leaves more pocket money for luxuries and vacations, but history and economics tell a very different story. Let’s look at the actual facts behind the system. #EconomicFacts #PoliticalDebate #ModernHistory

Norway is a social democracy not a democratic socialist country. Also they have an extremely white population. A very low population. They have more capitalistic freedom than we do in the USA.

How come every time anybody wants to use a country like Norway or Sweden, they only give you the statistics that fit their narrative, not all of the statistics

The tax rate in Norway is 22% on general income and 1.7%-17.8% in progressive income tax rates. This means if you make $226,100 Kroner (approximately $24,000 USD) you pay a total of 23.7%of your income. (Those under the $226,100 are exempt from the progressive tax) so total tax burden on poverty level income (by US standard) is $5,280 leaving said individual/family with $18,720 in annual income when converted to USD. When 22% of all income after deductions hits those under that $24,000USD the negative impact on the lower income earner is even more devastating than what we have here in the US. Those lower earners are not living it up by any means.

Norway is starting to fail. Their society is starting to crack due to the immigrants who don’t assimilate.

She’s also not taking Tim to the fact that Norway is maybe 5.5 million people where the United States says 342 million people he can’t really compare these to per capita

Give us the statistic of how many people live in norway vs us. Take the number of norway and times it by 100. then you can compare.

Norway owns the oil rights in the artic and licensed to Exxon. Norway uses this as a base for education & healthcare. But, Norway is a capitalist market economy.

Also, laws are much more strict in Norway and people are held accountable, so the deterrent to commit crimes is there, unlike in the US, where in many states there’s a catch and release mindset. “Overcrowded prisons” means early release by re-categorizing crimes, rather than building more prisons.

What makes anyone think they get to keep the job in the pay scale they have if the system is completely changed? The truth is you won't you will have to do whatever job the government tells you to do. It will have nothing to do with personal choice

Norway is capitalist by pretty much every measure idk why people keep claiming that it is a democratic socialist state. Norway is far more similar to the US than China or Cuba or Vietnam. the vast majority of Norway's GDP is the private sector the same as in the US. the only real difference between Norway and the US is tax revenue and public spending and it isn't even THAT different.

We do not think it is "free" it is taxed by all. It would however mean that you have security of housing, food, healthcare so you have a better life without the stress about how to afford those basic needs a human needs. Your logic of profits also does not go, as socialism is nothing more then the means of production come in hands of the people who produce them not the owner only. You are conflating socialism with a different system where the STATE owns everything. I would choose a life where I did not have to worry about housing, food or healthcare even if that would mean my disposable income would be less. less stress is more health. Most Americans currently live paycheck to paycheck or in perpetual debt, one missed paycheck away from being homeless, and thus in survival mode constantly what results in worse health outcomes. if you provide healthy affordable food the general health will go up, and thus health costs will go down. But yeah we never said that the STATE needs to own everything we say the people needs to own the fruits of their production.

If I was guaranteed free public transport, free heating and electricity, safer streets, and a very reliable NHS I would be happy to pay 50% taxes. But we live in a very real world where I know that would never happen.
