to this day alot of landlords still use lead paint in NYC anytime I would stay the night at my house in the projects I would get sick cause I was already asthmatic. and I remember staying there for the summer and had so many problems afterwards. the doc told my mom I was fine. however when I was 28 I started suffering with seizures out of nowhere and they couldn't find anything wrong with me. and when I was 36 I got tested for lead mind you I moved to Maryland in when I was 30 and I still felt terrible. come to find out I had lead in my body. I got my kids tested and they my oldest had lead and now has a learning disability as well form the house we was staying in NYC mind you it was a regular brownstone in Brooklyn. my daughter was raised in NYC for the first 4 years of her life she crawled on that floor and ran around that house my son didn't like the floor cause he didn't like the cold I didn't have carpet. but my daughter had it. I had my house tested in Maryland it was lead free. paid a lot for it too smh. and I know for a fact it was from nyc cause when I left there I started to feel better. these landlords sell you these apartments and they know it's lead based but they don't care. I bet if you test more then half the homes in NYC you have ill find high levels of lead in them

I remember reading or hearing someone talking about the Tuskegee syphilis study, and saying that people act like the question is ‘how can we get POC to trust the medical system’ but it should be ‘how can we operate a medical system worthy of being trusted?’ This is horrific.

It was NEVER about treating children or addressing lead as a poisonous substance to children, it was ALWAYS about how they can abate and repair homes cheaply to allow landlords to get away with harming their tenants to save money.

my phycology teacher taught about this, she told us "this is a reminder that no matter how much time passes, when the wrong people get to make choices for others innocent lives are lost, this wasn't 100 or even 60 years ago, this was a short enough time ago that those babies would have JUST been starting their own families" This was in 2022 and I was heartbroken then and I'm still heart broken knowing that those responsible are somehow being praised for their work, like that work wasn't torturing babies and families for no real reason, I have so much rage when I find out about these types of 'studies'

Unfortunately, some of the best medical information we posses come from the worst of situations. WW2 is one of the more infamous examples of it. Should everyone be held accountable? Yes, however no one can deny the benefit this information obtained had on modern medicine as we know it
