The cult-favorite sandwich shop from Boston’s North End has opened its first NYC location in the East Village, bringing its famously oversized Italian sandwiches to Manhattan. Founded by Jen Royle, a former sports reporter turned restaurateur, Table Mercato earned Boston magazine’s Best Sandwich of 2025 award. And if the size of these sandwiches is any indication, they’re not doing anything halfway! Naturally, I went straight for the Spicy Vodka Parm ($28). And this thing is a MONSTER! 🤯 We’re talking crispy, golden chicken cutlets smothered in a rich, creamy Calabrian chili vodka sauce, with melted mozzarella, Parmesan, and fresh basil, all tucked into a sesame roll. The sauce is the star here—rich and tomatoey, with a lovely creaminess and a spicy kick that keeps you coming back for another bite. And despite all that sauce, those thin, juicy chicken cutlets still deliver a satisfying crunch! My advice? Get extra vodka sauce for dipping. Because when the sauce is this good, you’re going to want more of it! And don’t overlook the sides! 🥔 Housemade kettle-style potato chips ($6) — crunchy, salty, and absolutely made for dipping. 🧅 Housemade caramelized onion dip ($6) — thick, creamy, and SUPER chunky, with plenty of sweet, savory onion in every scoop. Honestly, the chips and dip are worth ordering on their own! These sandwiches are seriously substantial, so come hungry—or plan on saving half for later. ⏰ PRO TIP: There’s always a line! My advice is to get there just before they open at 11 AM to get a head start on the crowd.
