@danamomto4: My experience of emotional crashouts and periods of depression when I weaned my 4 breastfed babies. Not something to necessarily be AFRAID of, but something to be aware and talk about 🫶🏼
For how long did this last for you? Days? Weeks? Anything that helped ?

Prolactin and oxytocin are high while pregnant and breastfeeding so that also might be why your 4th weaning experience was more rough since you weren’t pregnant again therefore the hormones actually dropped entirely instead of just a little then increasing due to pregnancy

Did you struggle with postpartum depression or baby blues at all?

Yup when I weaned the drop in hormones was insane!! It was worse than first post partum. The drop was an absolutely crazy ride. People deff don’t talk about this enough! I had no idea that weaning caused that kind of emotional crash

How did you get your period back while still breastfeeding? 10 months in EBF and I still don’t have my cycle back

My little guy just turned one a few months ago, and we are still very much nursing and we both love it and I am terrified that when the time comes to wean him, I’m going to have an emotional breakdown. Especially if he has a hard time with it. Like obviously I know I can’t nurse him forever and we plan to have more babies and I plan to nurse them as well but there’s such an emotional tie to being your babies, comfort and their food, and just the closeness that it brings. I’m actually dreading it, and it’s nowhere near😭

This happened to me when my baby had a sudden nursing strike but NOT when I weaned super slowly, dropping one feed at a time!

100%!! I nursed for 2 years and I felt the weaning shift was harder for me than post birth. Was not prepared

Thank you for sharing this! My first abruptly became uninterested in nursing right at 18 months and I tried to hold on for a little over a week until I accepted the fact that it was over. That night was THE saddest night of my life. It took me by surprise, the utter devastation. Still nursing my second/15 month old and dreading when that day comes again 😔. SUCH a hard part of motherhood!

Thank you I needed to hear this. I weaned my 22 month old 6 weeks ago, extremely slowly (dropped like a feed a MONTH), and I still feel really down and not myself. It's been awful and I was like whyyyyyy. But recently been thinking it's the weaning.

I breastfed for just over 2 years and I never experienced the hormonal crash when I weaned, thankfully. I felt completely normal. I was also pregnant whilst weaning. I feel like I didn’t experience it because I weaned very slowly, over the course of about 3 months. I gradually decreased the amount of times I breastfed thru out the day/night.
