My brother and I had an interesting argument about China. His biggest dislike of China (his wife is Chinese fyi and he’s been there) is the fact that, while they are good at building things like high speed rails etc, they do so because they will build it to run through full neighborhoods, often forcing all the inhabitants of that area to move so they can demolish their home (I assume they help relocate them). In the US it’s much harder to do that which is one reason why CA failed to build a high speed rail. China will just declare it and the individual has no say in the matter. Personally I think it’s a “what’s good for the collective” situation that ultimate is best for society, but I can also see being really pissed if I was forced to relocate due to a massive construction project that needs my homes land. Your thoughts?
