Listen, the deal aged badly. Dont forget when Murphy got here he was THE best catcher in the league. Injuries ruined him and William thrived. It’s unfortunate for us. But good for William he deserved mvp he was a beast.

Don’t forget that Drake was drafted in the third round that year. Braves thought they had their catcher of the future and needed an upgrade for a few years and then could pass the torch to Baldwin. Trade made a ton of sense at the time.

I think the reason he is so good now is because he was traded. he went from being a backup to a regular starter and that allowed him to truly develop.

It was a good decision at the time. Murphy was unlucky. It’s not like Murphy sucks, he was an All-Star catcher and has had back luck with injuries mostly from getting hit with bats and balls.

Being a Brewer fan the only unfortunate part to this story is he might have played his last game for the Brewers, he has one year left on his contract and our MO is not paying a ton of money. It’s very frustrating but obviously it works.

There’s also racial diversification... and that’s fine—it is what it is. Certain markets, like Atlanta, have to maintain a balance based on their customer demographics (the fan base). For instance, in New York, both teams always make sure to have a couple of Latino superstars—almost by design. In the case of Atlanta, or even Milwaukee (historically speaking), the fan base is predominantly Caucasian. So, in the end, yes—it does play a role. It matters whether a player is from the local area or what their background is... and that’s the beautiful thing about baseball. Note: I’ve been to both stadiums many times, so I know what I’ve seen.

You’re missing a point it comes down to scouting coaching managing who can coach up a player who could manage him better who sees that the guy has something that no one else sees and getting off topic that’s why the Yankees suck. They overpay for mediocre players and I could point a two pacific when Arizona beat them. They went after Randy Johnson and the Red Sox went after the bloody sock guy who killed the Yankees then when the Marlins beat them, the Yankees go after D train and the Red Sox get Papple bomb who was the scout who got the better player.
