Good morning, y’all! ❤️ After almost two weeks on the road, we’re finally headed HOME! And as much as I love our adventures, I’m ready to see my babies, my people, and my own little corner of the world! Of course, we’ve only got about eight days before we’re off again. Alabama football isn’t going to watch itself! 😂🐘🏈 There’s something about October, the cool mornings, and the changing leaves that always takes me back to New Bethany Children’s Home. I went there in October of either 1977 or 1978, and all these years later, this time of year still brings those memories flooding back. Today I’m sharing a little more about what life was like there, especially my time as a “trip girl.” We traveled across the country on a bus, singing in churches, sharing our testimonies, and collecting love offerings for the home. And while there were so many difficult things about that place, being a trip girl gave me some of my happiest memories from those years. I got to travel, laugh, and spend time with girls who became my family. For the first time in my life, I had stayed somewhere longer than a year. And isn’t that something? Finding a sense of belonging in a place that could also feel so unsettling. I’ve included photographs throughout today’s video of the home, the bus, and some of the people and places I’m talking about. I hope they’ll help y’all better understand what life there actually looked like. It wasn’t a foster home or a regular house. It was a “facility”, an “institution”, and that’s an important part of understanding my story. And on a MUCH lighter note, tonight we’ll be back in my blue kitchen for IT’S DINNER TIME! Complete with a CHRISTMAS TREE that Hunter has already put up while we’ve been gone! Before Halloween, y’all. BEFORE HALLOWEEN! 😂🎄 I hope you’ll stay and visit with me this morning.
