@dished_by_keev: I will absolutely die on the “you should never wash your chicken” hill. I understand why some people do it. It feels cleaner. But in operations, the inspector does not allow it, and it lands as a major violation. You follow the rules no matter what your personal beliefs are. If you wash your chicken, tell me why in the comments. I want to hear it. 👉 link in bio for the free Kitchen Inspection Scorecard! #foodsafety #chicken #kitchentips #foodservice #cookingtips

My mom was a county health inspector my entire life. Idk who needs to hear this but unless you only eat chicken that you prepared yourself, you eat unwashed chicken at any restaurant you've ever been too because washing chicken is a health code violation across America. Hope this helps👍🏽

As a chef working on a bachelors I can assure nobody worth their weight in the kitchen is washing their chicken. Anyone who is washing their chicken is contaminating their entire kitchen and I want no part of it 😅 don’t cancel me yall 😭

Who said we was just running water over the chicken and letting water splash all over the place? It was always put in a bowl with water, vinegar, and lime or lemon.

Also, no one is washing the chicken to disinfect or sterilize it, come on use yall common sense. You clean off the gooey slime, feathers if any, and extra fat or meat you want off and any blood. Sit it in a bowl of water and vinegar for a few minutes and then pour the water out into the sink. Then add more water to the bowl and let it sit again for a few minutes. Then pour it out. So no need to hold it under the faucet of running water. DISINFECT the surfaces when done. If u don’t want to do it then don’t 🤷🏽‍♀️

washing it actually is giving the opportunity for bacteria to be placed on the meat and to grown. It also send micro droplets of tainted water and chicken goo all over ur kitchen. Washing chicken is not only unnecessary but it is actually more risky than not washing.

Washing chicken is filed alongside “cold makes people sick.” They’re fairytales and myths that people continue ONLY because their family passed it along. Factually however, hey’re not rooted in science and overlooked when the topic is brought up. Those who know, know.

I do not wash any of my meat, I will put tin foil down with paper towels and blot/dry all my meats. You are contaminating so much more than you realize with the water splatters. That water splatters off the meat further than you think

Washing chicken is stupid. What are you trying to wash off the raw chicken, the raw? Thats what the heat is for. There is no clean raw chicken. Absolute silliness trying to wash chicken off of chicken.

What are you washing? You can not wash salmonella off- you cook it off… all you are doing is cross contaminating your sink.

What’s bizarre about the whole discourse is that people don’t mind eating unwashed chicken at restaurants, but will cause arguments about it being necessary to do it at home. It makes no sense.

I am thinking people who argue that you shouldn’t wash chicken because it spreads bacteria don’t disinfect their kitchen regularly? I don’t understand the “don’t wash chicken” argument. Disinfectants exist for a reason. I disinfect my sink and countertops every day regardless of whether I have actually cooked or not.

I will never understand how it’s spreading more germs unless folks are flinging wet, raw chicken around the kitchen. It’s in a bowl. Water, lime, etc is applied. It’s “washed” in the bowl, it’s rinsed in the sink, the area gets cleaned cuz you’re cooking. I’ve been doing this for decades, taught by my mom & grandmoms. No food poisonings, salmonella, e-coli, nothing. Generations of sundays dinners with washed chicken, not one issue. I just don’t understand what some folks are doing in the kitchen.
