@svhh06y7: Discover a new type of storage that could change computing: universal memory. Researchers are developing phase-changing memory for faster performance and efficiency. What do you think about this innovation? #computing #STEM #technology #innovation #research
yeah right. they've been talking about this for 10 years already

Mixing at will storage, with long term storage seems very volatile and dangerous for data retention

For anyone who finds this completely novel as an idea do we forget that we had rewritable technology already for storage? lol

So you would need constant climate control or you risk your data just being wiped out if it gets too hot/cold and flips the drive to all zeroes or ones?

Is this based on the memristors that were developed by hp labs like in 2005? That were state changing material that changed their ohm depending on the direction of the current and the state was read using a/c?

This tech has been around for decades and it’s still unreliable. Just another start up trying to do something that’s proven unsuccessful. And btw, all memory can be used in all different kinds of ways. You can make ram act like a ssd, it just requires non-stop power with an exceptional psu to avoid corrupting any data. Why isn’t this the mainstream? Because its extremely expensive to operate.
