I think based on your explanation you are mixing up point, non hybrid is an inverter that has only one power source (grid/gen), while hybrid inverter has more power sources (grid/gen and solar. What you are talking about is high frequency inverter (transformer less) and Low frequency inverter (transformer based) and mind you both can be hybrid or non hybrid.

for small system you can use the non hybrid inverter because the hybrid inverter is expensive
