@climatedefiance: Los Angeles just voted 13–0 to ban new oil drilling and phase out the city’s 2,000+ active oil wells within the next 20 years. Many of those wells are right next to homes, schools, hospitals, and parks — and mostly in working-class neighborhoods, like Wilmington, where families and communities have been forced to breathe in the fumes for generations. Activists have spent more than a decade organizing to end the drilling in their backyards, and yesterday they won! This win was coalitional from top to bottom, including frontline residents, grassroots organizers, health advocates, and climate groups — all working together to beat one of the most powerful lobbies on earth, even under the Trump administration. One city down. Plenty more to go.
