Honestly, as an autistic human, being an anchoress might be one of the most preferable medieval existences for me. I'm no longer religious, but as a child I memorized hundreds of hymns and at least a dozen chapters of the kjv bible. I imagine I could rock and sing to my heart's content (something I spent hours upon hours happily engaged in as a child), give people advice without having to directly interact with them, and maybe spin/weave/sew or copy manuscripts. If I could have a cat I'd probably be more than happy for decades.

Anchorite / anchoress life is SO wild, it’s a weird position of both ultimate power and complete powerlessness… to be spiritually revered as a living saint but also completely depend on others for your physical comforts (food, water, etc.)… so fascinating

When I was a bioarchaeology student, I'd think that pose was a perimortem occurance. Now that I've worked as a funeral director, I'm much more inclined to think she had been in that position for some time. Given the advanced pathology of her bones, it would be near impossible to tell the difference without a look at her musculature at the time. A bioarchaeologist may have a different perspective after studying this case more in depth.
