"Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding." — William Paul Thurston Since my latest post about 'simple' math in gamedev got quite a bit of attention, I really wanted to share this 'meme' again. Because this is something I always like to tell people who are afraid they can't make games because of the math involved. Once you start learning to code, you'll realize that seeing math in code actually makes sense. It's not scary at all. In fact, it becomes a lot of fun! 😄 And most importantly, you don't even need to be good at math. You just need to enjoy it. 😉 And yeah... I get it. Most people hate math because they aren't good at it. But in my opinion, that's a huge flaw in how we traditionally teach mathematics at school. Traditional math often makes mistakes feel like a failure. But making a mathematical mistake in code gives you a completely different experience. You can keep trying, tweaking things, and figuring out how to make it work. And when you finally see your formulas working as intended, that feeling is priceless! That's exactly what made me fall in love with math when I started learning how to make games 15 years ago. 🙌 So, stop ignoring math. Stop being afraid of it. Start understanding it through code, learn by doing, and you'll begin to appreciate it just like I did. 😉 I'm planning to share some tips soon on how to start improving your math skills through coding. Stay tuned for that! 🤩 But for now... Happy coding, everyone! 👨‍💻 ~ Follow for game development and programming content! 🤩👨‍💻🎮 @justinbieshaar . . 🏷️ #gamedev #math #mathematics #codingmeme #gamedevelopment
