We could always do like Canada and just raise people who work taxes?

There should be no paid maternity leave. Having children as a choice and it should be planned for accordingly. Me and my spouse managed to have five and never received a dime of free money

no offense ment, I enjoy your content. you made me realize people always think of their problems as priority. as a single man who will never have a child my problem is why should I pay for your priority. you see it goes both ways.

I think that it would be logical to have it partially fall under short term disability. After all, most day care do not take babies under 6 months old anyway. 🤷‍♀️makes sense to me

We need to get back to where we were as a financial society where single payee households were easily achievable, so if women want to have a career they can, if they want to stay at home with their family, they can. Here's the kicker of it, you wouldn't need maternity leave because your spouse would be able to support you during those bonding months. It is so easy, but, just don't know how to get back to that.

here in CT, we have a Family Leave Act that takes out .5% of your pay. Yes its money coming out of your check, but its not much at all, and theres an annual cap. And not only does it cover maternity leave but also paternity leave or any kind of Family or medical issues. its one of the very few taxes Im ok with in this tax-you-to-death state.

No matter how many good ideas there are, there will always be someone who will take advantage of the program. And as someone that has no kids and have had to pay taxes to fund school, no, I don’t think a “new” program will work. There is to much fraud and abuse.

Oregon has its own Family Leave program. Every employee pays a tax taken out of their paycheck to pay into it. We stsrted paying into it a year before it began being able to be used. We are now able to take up to 12 weeks fully paid leave for any family or medical need, maternity, paternity, medical procedures, yourself or a family member. You can even split up and do a few weeks at a time. I know a few who Mom and Dad would both take it but alternate, ie Mom and Dad both took first two weeks. Dad went back to work for a month, Mom stayed home another month. Mom went back to work, Dad took another month, etc etc. when all is said and done they get a full 6 months with their baby at home before having to deal with child care. Multnomah County also has Child Care for all, also part of County payroll tax.

Cut 1% of defence funding, stop the war in Iran. In other countries like France they fund it through a variety of measure so no one entity gets dinged with the burden

Crazy take on this, but what if one parent is a stay at home parent. Removing a large number of workers from the pool would make employees more valuable and should result in better pay.

I’ve been a stay at home mom for 25 years. We’ve made it work. There have been lean times with only one income but we’ve made it work.

This is one great thing Maine has done for us. It’s amazing. Only costs us a small amount. And is very fair for everyone

As a twin mom who went back to work after 12 weeks it should be 6 months minimum!!! At 12 weeks forget about the baby the mom isn’t herself! I didn’t feel normal till like 6 months to a year. No clue what the solution is kinda sad in the YS we haven’t figured this out already.

I don't believe a parent should lose their job for having a child. That said - I don't have children, never wanted one and now I can't (yay). But I have had to cover for people on maternity leave many times through the years. They don't hire temp workers, those of us still there have to pick up the slack. So if I pay for someone else's maternity leave not only am I losing money I will never benefit from, I am also doing twice the work. I believe it should fall under fmla to keep your position open as well as short and/or long term disability opted into by the employee and paid for by the employee. Or employer paid if offered to everyone.

not trying to be arguative with you young lady but most jobs in the United States gives the women 10 to 14 weeks of maternity leave the men 3 days and if we want more than that we have to use our PTO.

I'm not sure how Unemployment Insurance works in the USA, however as a Boomer who collected it in Canada for a total of 10 Months in my teens and paid into it for 45 years. If USA is similar, then this could be a solution. The priority should always be to make the Mother, Baby & Family comfortable. It also encourages Families to have Children

I don’t think the company pays anything, unless they decide to top up the UI that is paid. It’s been in place for many many years and the positives vastly outweigh the negatives.

On income tax forms they have a check box if you want to donate to elections. What if they had one to donate to our Moms Leave. If everyone gave One dollar I bet that would pay for it.

Why not included under health insurance once you’re no longer able to have babies you won’t need the coverage. While you are a child bearing age, you can get as much maternity leave as you would like?

While I believe there is enough money in the government to fund this, the government will always have poor money management. That said, how about a business insurance that a woman or a couple can opt in kind of like a 401k where it’s matched by the company to take place before pregnancy. When the time comes the money is there for the mother to have. If pregnancy doesn’t happen the money can be rolled into an IRA or another investment or maybe to prepay insurance copay or something like that. 🤷🏻‍♂️just my thoughts.

If you don’t take it from taxes let mother’s have a small portion and I mean very small of there pay check go into an account before taxes. They may not save a lot to take months off of work with there baby but might give them a little longer than 12 weeks. If you don’t use it all it’s still her money so they give you back the rest that is left. I hope that makes sense. I know at least at my job we all pay into short term disability and the policy is you have to take 9 days of your pto then short term kicks in. It would be hard for the father’s to have the same system set up for them because how would he give it to his wife unless they pay him when his wife is on leave but this is just me thinking.

I am lucky because I was a stay at home mom. We worked hard to make that happen, and I didn't have my son until that was attainable. That being said, companies could do more in providing on site child care, that way mom can go back to work after 3 months and the baby still be where she is. I don't think it is fair to a company to have to hold a position open, or pay for basically two people to do a job, with one person not actually doing it. In Canada, do companies have to hold the position available for 18 months?
